Oddly enough, the Evergreen State’s top 5 choices for cinematic thrills mirror the preferences of Americans as a whole. Without further ado… let’s look at the types of movies Washingtonians want to watch most.

5. Action

Most people would say that the dominant genre in the ’80s and ’90s has fallen to fifth place as the most searched genre in the state and across the country, with 74 searches. Monthly searches per 100,000 people. Rambo didn’t shake audiences like it used to, but Washington residents looking for action satisfaction were turning to Die Hard. Kill Bill, the Aliens, and the Raiders of the Lost Ark.

4. Romance

The movie genre, also called “Chick flicks”, ranks fourth with 81 points. Monthly searches per 100,000 people. When Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan made Sleepless in Seattle, Washingtonians loved it. The biggest movies of 1993but he seems to have disappeared among the state’s most wanted men. The most popular among romantics are Titanic, When Harry Met Sally, The Princess Bride and Roman Holiday.

There are so many great comedies it would take more than one article to list them all, but the top hits in the state over the past 12 months were: Barbie, The Big Lebowski, Monty Python and the Holy Grail and Mean Girls.

After all, Washingtonians (as well as Americans) love a good scare. Horror was by far the most searched genre, with an average of 263 Google searches per month per 100,000 people. While fall may be the busiest time of year to be terrified, it seems the Evergreen State always prefers to be scared. Some of the most popular movies that scare us are supernatural classics. The Exorcist, The Shining, Scream and the ancestor of all slasher movies… Texas Chainsaw Massacre.
