Geordies are the cheapest when it comes to buying Christmas gifts… so where does YOUR family rank?

Geordies are the ‘strictest’ people when it comes to buying Christmas gifts for their nearest and dearest, a study has found.

Researchers surveyed 2,000 Brits to find out who planned to spend the most and least on festive gifts.

Research by Outlet Shopping at The O2 found the average spend was £275.

If every adult in the UK spent this much, the country’s Christmas shopping list would reach £15 billion.

Geordies such as Ant & Dec, Cheryl and Jimmy Nail said they would spend just £219 on average, while Scots such as Sir Alex Ferguson and Lorraine Kelly said they would spend £312.

Fold, from Yorkshire, was the second most generous, spending an average of £305 despite Scots and Yorkshire people having a “reputation for being tight”.
