S.C. sheriff says 12-year-old boy charged with separate counts of attempted murder and robbery

A 12-year-old boy was arrested in connection with the shooting and charged with attempted murder. Richland County Sheriff’s Department announced.

Just before 7 p.m. on Nov. 11, Richland County deputies responded to the following question: 3600 block of Farm Road Behind a restaurant in Columbia for the shoot. They found a 14-year-old boy with multiple gunshot wounds.

Authorities said the investigation revealed that the 12-year-old boy and four other children got into an argument when the 12-year-old boy pulled out a gun and began shooting. The suspected shooter then fled before law enforcement arrived.

The injured 14-year-old boy was taken to a local hospital in stable condition.

The 12-year-old was identified during an investigation and turned himself into the Richland County Sheriff’s Department headquarters on Friday.

The boy is also charged with possession of a weapon by a person under 18 and possession of a weapon during a violent crime.

The other young people involved in the incident were cleared of the charges.

A separate investigation revealed that the same 12-year-old boy was a suspect in another crime and was charged with armed robbery. The sheriff’s department said that on March 1, 2024, around 2 p.m., deputies were called to a “strong armed robbery” incident that occurred in the 2200 block of East Boundary Road.

The child will be booked in South Carolina Ministry of Juvenile Justice.
