The list is dominated by cars from Indian automakers (Tata and Mahindra) and the bulk of them are SUVs.

The Bharat new car assessment program (BNCAP) started its operations in October 2023. Since then, the organization has tested several cars, mostly from Indian brands like Tata and Mahindra. Many of these cars tested by BNCAP achieved an impressive 5-star safety rating. Let’s take a closer look at each of them and how they perform.

Mahindra XUV 3XO

Price Range: Rs 7.79 lakh to Rs 15.49 lakh

Mahindra XUV 3XO was recently crash tested by Bharat NCAPIt received a full 5-star safety rating for both adult and child occupant protection.

Safety features on the It also has 3-point seat belts and seat belt reminders for all seats, all-wheel drive disc brakes, and a full suite of advanced driver assistance system (ADAS) features, including adaptive cruise control, autonomous braking, and lane keeping assist.

Tata Nexon

Price Range: Rs 8 lakh to Rs 15.50 lakh

The next SUV is the Tata Nexon, a direct rival of the XUV 3XO. Nexon has always been known for its safety and strong build quality and it proved its strength once again when it was crash tested by Bharat NCAP. Nexon receives an impressive 5-star safety rating for both adult and child occupant protection.

Passenger safety is provided by 6 airbags, electronic stability control, ABS with EBD, ISOFIX child seat mounting, rear parking sensors (as standard). Higher-spec models also offer a 360-degree camera with blind-view monitor, front parking sensors and tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS). However, unlike the XUV 3XO, the Nexon misses out on ADAS.

Tata Punch EV

Price Range: Rs 9.99 lakh to Rs 14.29 lakh

Tata Punch EV is launched in early 2024 with better equipment than the regular Punch’s safety kit. The all-electric Punch not only has a full 5-star safety rating from Bharat NCAP It has both adult and child occupant protection, but also has the highest safety scores, making it the safest car on this list.

Safety features include six airbags (as standard), 360-degree camera, ESC and electronic parking brake with auto-hold feature. The safety net also includes a blind-spot display monitor, hill hold control and hill descent control.

Tata fold

Price Range: Rs 10 lakh to Rs 19 lakh

Tata Curvv has entered the compact SUV space in India with its Coupe roofline USP. Apart from its unique design, Tata Curvv also has a strong safety suite in typical Tata style and Full 5-star safety rating from Bharat NCAP.

In terms of safety features, it comes with many standard equipment such as 6 airbags, rear parking sensors, ISOFIX child seat mounts and ESC. Higher models also include a 360-degree camera with blind-view monitoring, front parking sensors, TPMS, and even level 2 ADAS, which includes lane keep assist, adaptive cruise control, and collision avoidance assist.

Mahindra Thar Roxx

Price Range: Rs 12.99 lakh to Rs 22.49 lakh

Thar Roxx was one of the most popular launches of 2024 and it is not limited to just the 3-door version of the Thar. This stretched version of the Thar comes with comprehensive features and nothing has been compromised even in terms of safety. In a recent crash test conducted by Bharat NCAP, Thar Roxx has a 5-star safety rating for both adult and child occupant protection.

Mahindra Thar Roxx is equipped with safety features like 6 airbags, ESC, hill start control, hill descent control, 360-degree camera, electronic parking brake with auto-hold feature, four-wheel drive disc brakes and TPMS. Thar Roxx also has level 2 ADAS features such as lane keeping assist and adaptive cruise control.

Tata Nexon EV

Price Range: Rs 12.49 lakh to Rs 17.49 lakh

Just like Nexon ICE (internal combustion engine), Its all-electric counterpart also achieved a full 5-star safety rating in the Bharat NCAP crash tests. In fact, the Nexon EV scores slightly higher in child occupant protection than the Nexon ICE.

The Tata Nexon EV is equipped with safety features like six airbags, electronic stability control, front and rear parking sensors, ISOFIX child seat mounts, hill hold control, hill descent control and electronic parking brake with auto-hold feature.

Mahindra XUV 400EV

Price Range: Rs 15.49 lakh to Rs 19.39 lakh

Another Mahindra SUV on the list is the XUV400 EV. Just like Thar Roxx and XUV 3XO, XUV400 EV also received full 5-star safety rating from Bharat NCAP. Safety features include up to six airbags, electronic stability program (ESP), tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS), hill start assist and rear parking camera.

Tata Curvv EV

Price Range: Rs 17.49 lakh to Rs 21.99 lakh

The fourth EV among 5-star rated cars is the Tata Curvv EV. Thanks to the comprehensive security package Curvv EV also received an impressive 5-star report from Bharat NCAP.

As for features, it comes with plenty of equipment as standard, including six airbags, rear parking sensors, ISOFIX child seat mounts and ESC. Higher versions also include Level-2 ADAS, which includes a 360-degree camera, front parking sensors, a tire pressure monitoring system, and even lane keeping assist, adaptive cruise control, and collision avoidance assist.

Tata Harrier/Safari

Price Range: Rs 14.99 lakh to Rs 25.89 lakh (Tata Harrier) / Rs 15.49 lakh to Rs 26.79 lakh (Tata Safari)

Tata Harrier and Tata Safari are the most expensive offerings on this list. Both of these SUVs Not only did Bharat achieve a full 5-star safety rating on NCAP but also in Global NCAP crash tests.

The safety kit on both SUVs consists of up to 7 airbags, electronic stability control (ESC), hill assist, 360-degree camera, TPMS and ADAS.
