It will happen eventually. Anyone who follows prep football in Nebraska knows that No. 1 Westside and No. 2 Millard South have been on a collision course all year long. They finally clashed at Memorial Stadium on November 25.

Westside used a dominant second half to pull away from Omaha North and earn a 47-21 victory in Friday night’s semifinals. Now the Warriors are making their sixth straight state championship game appearance and aiming to lift the trophy for the third straight year.

But in their way will be Millard South’s chainsaw. The Patriots had an average margin of victory of 38 points in the regular season and carried that into the playoffs, defeating Kearney 49-14 on Friday to open the clash with Westside.

There’s a similar feeling in Class B, as two Omaha metro powerhouses will meet again in the finals. Like Westside, No. 1 Bennington is aiming for its fourth consecutive state championship after defeating Elkhorn North 16-7 in the semifinals on Friday.

But this won’t be a piece of cake for Bennington, as the team that has beaten them in the last four seasons is on the other side of the bracket. Skutt Catholic went on the road and beat Seward 42-21 on Friday, setting up a rematch in the championship game. Skutt at the beginning of this year It broke Bennington’s 46-game hitting streak.
