BANGOR, Maine (WABI) – Maine State Police are investigating two separate car crashes on the highway in Bangor late Saturday morning that sent two people to the hospital with minor injuries.

Authorities said a vehicle traveling in the passing lane accelerated and moved into the travel lane to take exit 186.

This caused a vehicle in the right lane to brake rapidly to avoid a collision.

As a result, authorities said, this caused a chain-reaction crash involving three vehicles that blocked both the passing and travel lanes.

It was said that the vehicle coming to the exit was not involved in the accident and did not stop.

The first accident caused a second accident involving 3 vehicles.

Officials said traffic was blocked for about an hour while the scene was cleared.

The investigation into the accident continues.
