What happened to Connor Williams? Seahawks’ starting center retires suddenly at age 27

The Seahawks already have a lot of problems on the offensive line. So the last thing the organization needed was to lose one of the unit’s starting members.

That’s exactly what happened to center Connor Williams.

Seattle’s starting center abruptly retired ahead of Week 11 of the NFL season. Williams, 27, decided to retire from the sport eight games before the end of the 2024 regular season. He has started all nine games for the Seahawks so far this season.

Here’s more about Williams’ decision to retire from football.

What happened to Connor Williams?

Williams chose to retire from football at the age of 27.

Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald said Friday that the seven-year veteran made the decision earlier this week for “personal reasons.” He doesn’t expect Williams to backtrack on his comments and make a comeback.

“I don’t believe it,” Macdonald said. “We are honoring his wishes and will keep all of these reasons and conversations private for obvious reasons and wish him the best.”

The Seahawks head coach also stated that Williams hanging up his cleats was not due to any medical issue. Williams had knee surgery last year after tearing his anterior cruciate ligament.

Olu Oluwatimi will serve as Seattle’s starting center in Week 11.

Williams is in his first season as a member of the Seahawks organization. A second-round draft pick out of Texas in 2018, he started his NFL career with the Cowboys, playing in Dallas from 2018 to 2021. He signed a one-year deal with the Seahawks this summer after two seasons with the Dolphins.
