Spurs Coach Reportedly Dealing with ‘Serious’ Health Issue

for a long time San Antonio Spurs Head coach Gregg Popovich is dealing with a serious health issue that emerged over the weekend, creating uncertainty about his immediate future with the team.

According to ESPN NBA’s Shams Charania, Popovich needed medical attention before Saturday night’s game against the Spurs, creating an atmosphere of anxiety within the organization.

“I was told it was a health issue and it was a serious health issue that the Spurs and Gregg Popovich were dealing with over the weekend,” Charania said. “Gregg Popovich required medical attention in San Antonio prior to Saturday night’s game. It is still unclear when he will return to the field. There is a high level of concern surrounding this situation.”

Popovich, who has managed the Spurs for nearly 30 years, is not only the NBA’s longest-serving head coach, but also one of its most respected figures. His absence, although temporary, was a blow to the team, which was in the midst of a crucial development season.

Meanwhile, assistant coach Mitch Johnson was assigned head coaching responsibilities. Johnson, who has worked under Popovich for several years, is now tasked with guiding the Spurs as they navigate the early season without their iconic leader.
