19-year-old Dallas woman kills older man over phone during Facebook Marketplace meetup: police

Dallas police arrested a 19-year-old woman for killing a man during a Facebook Marketplace meetup.

The incident occurred last week just steps away from an elementary school and a busy Dallas freeway, with multiple witnesses nearby.

Police said Ahmad Alkhalaf, a 66-year-old husband and father from Sasche, was killed in the afternoon at an Oak Cliff gas station just off I-35 and South Marsalis Boulevard.

Gunshots rang out around 3 p.m. last Friday, just as the nearby Felix G. Botello Elementary School was vacated.

Two Dallas ISD police officers ran to Valero and found Alkhalaf shot next to his pickup truck, according to court records. He later died in hospital.

Dallas detectives learned Alkhalaf was there to sell a black iPhone 15 to someone he contacted on Facebook Marketplace.

Amaya Medrano mugshot, Dallas County Jail

Police obtained numerous surveillance videos from nearby businesses. They say the video shows 19-year-old Amaya Medrano and Alkhalaf having a brief conversation and Medrano running away.

As Alkhalaf pursued him, cameras recorded Medrano turning and shooting Alkhalaf, police said.

Investigators matched distinctive tattoos on Medrano’s face and neck to his social media accounts, according to an arrest warrant affidavit obtained by FOX 4 on Thursday.

Just three days after the fatal shooting, police discovered that the same Facebook account that had contacted Alkhalaf was selling a black iPhone 15 on Marketplace.

On Wednesday, Dallas police announced that Medrano was taken into custody by the U.S. Marshals Service and booked into the Dallas County jail.

Alkhalaf’s family tells FOX 4 he was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend. They said he was a humble man who worked hard at home and abroad to support his family.

Saying that Alkhalaf’s life was taken over via his cell phone, the family is left speechless and horrified by this senseless act of violence.

Court records show Medrano is serving a five-year probation sentence for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon after pleading guilty to stabbing someone last year.

Medrano is now charged with capital murder. His bond was set at $1 million.
