The KC brothers were federally charged with possession of firearms considered machine guns

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – A pair of brothers from Kansas City could face prison time after they were found to have devices that turn semi-automatic firearms into machine guns.

U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Missouri On Wednesday, Nov. 13, it was announced that Demetrius “Meech” Harris, 24, and his brother Daris “D” “D2” Harris, 22, both of Kansas City, were charged with illegal possession of machine gun conversion devices.

Judicial officials stated that the brothers were charged with separate indictments. The first hearings were held on Thursday and Friday.

Demetrius was charged with unlawful possession and transfer of machine guns, an AR-type machine gun conversion device and an Anderson Manufacturing AM-15 multi-caliber rifle with two AR-type machine gun conversion devices.

Meanwhile, Darius faces two charges of illegal possession and transfer of a Glock-type machine gun conversion device.

Conversion devices, also known as switches or automatic searsa, are used to convert semi-automatic weapons into machine guns that fire multiple shots with a single pull of the trigger, law enforcement officials said. This allows for rapid and often less accurate fire.

Whether or not these devices are attached to a firearm, federal law considers them to be machine guns. Therefore, it is illegal to possess, sell or use these devices. No further information has been released.
