Cross Showrunner Talks Episode 1’s Deadly Reveal and Casting in ‘Charismatic’ Role (Spoilers)

“I wanted to make a younger, more charismatic, more seductive, more physical serial killer,” Watkins explains. “I felt like this was something that hadn’t been done and that it would surprise people.”

When casting a younger, more handsome actor like Eggold, Watkins says, “every now and then you may find yourself caring about this character and realizing how easy it would be for them to lure you into their trap.” But what you also gain, says the EP, “is you get to see them go head-to-head with Alex Cross and maybe get the upper hand, which makes for a great show.”
