POTTSTOWN, Pa. (WPVI) — A police officer was shot in Pottstown, Montgomery County, on Friday.

The incident took place at around 16:30 in the 200 block of Chestnut Street.

A lieutenant at the scene told WFMZ that officers were called for a disturbance.

The lieutenant said a suspect then got into a fight and that’s when a shot was fired, hitting the officer.

Sources tell Action News that surgery was necessary, but the officer’s injuries are not life-threatening.

Police reported that a suspect was in custody.
