The Summit County Coroner’s Office has identified the young woman who was killed on Tuesday, November 12. accident on Colorado Highway 9 near Breckenridge.

Marlen Zelaya Rodriguez, 18, of Silverthorne, died in the crash, Summit County Coroner Amber Flenniken said in an email Thursday, Nov. 14.

According to the Colorado State Patrol, the two-vehicle crash occurred near mile marker 90 around 5:20 p.m., when Rodriguez lost control of the Subaru Forester he was driving north on the icy, snow-covered highway. The Subaru reportedly left the left shoulder of the roadway, struck a sign in the central median, then turned into the southbound lane where it struck the right side of a Chevrolet Suburban.



Law enforcement said the medical team pronounced Rodriguez dead at the scene. The driver and passenger of the Chevrolet were slightly injured in the accident.

Highway 9 (previous) closed to south For more than three hours following the crash, police used alternate traffic to allow vehicles to pass to the scene.
