MOORHEAD, Minn. (Valley News Live) – Anheuser-Busch announced they will be closing their Moorhead, MN Malt House and selling their elevators in Sutton, ND and West Fargo, ND as they move to update their malting operations.

The company said the move would enable Rahr Malting Co., which will undertake the full capacity of Moorhead’s malt production. He announced that he came after a recent agreement with. Any new barley supplies from the North Dakota and Minnesota companies will be directed to Rahr’s Shakopee Malt House starting in 2025, and both elevators in Sutton, ND and West Fargo, ND will be available for sale and continue operating.

“We recognize the importance of this announcement to our employees and communities and are committed to ensuring this transition is as seamless as possible for our employees,” an Anheuser-Busch spokesperson said in the statement.

Anheuser-Busch’s says its malting footprint leverages both internal malting capacity and third-party partners, and the latest decision is part of its efforts to rebalance that footprint.

“As we continue to build towards a strong future, we are updating our malting operations and expanding our decades-long relationship with Rahr, a trusted partner and leading malting company; Anheuser-Busch purchases an average of more than $50 million in barley annually from our more than 250 grower partners in the Midwest, including North Dakota and Minnesota; That’s more than any other brewer, and that’s not going to change; We remain committed to supporting our grower partners and will continue to source directly from them as we have for the last 165 years; “We are confident that the steps we are taking now will enable us to better serve our customers and become a stronger company and industry leader.” says Nicole Zahradka, Director of Agronomy at Anheuser-Busch.

Anheuser-Busch said these updates will allow both companies to continue their long-standing partnerships.
