Short-term rental commission awaits opinion

The special legislative committee examining the economic and social impacts of the short-term rental industry is now accepting public testimony, and Reps. Lauren H. Carson and Terri Cortvriend are asking Aquidneck Islanders to make their voices heard.

The Special Legislative Commission Responsible for Examining Policies and Providing Recommendations Addressing Numerous Economic and Social Short-Term Rental Issues has scheduled a meeting on Thursday, November 21, specifically to hear from the public. The meeting will take place at 14:00 in the House Lounge on the second floor of the State Building.

You don’t have to go to Providence or wait until then to testify. Written testimony is just as effective, and Carson, who chairs the commission, and Cortvriend, who is a member, encourage voters to send them written testimony to be presented to the commission.

Anyone wishing to submit written testimony is asked to email it directly to Carson at [email protected] or Cortvriend at [email protected], preferably in PDF format. Legislators are asking anyone who submits a statement to email it by Nov. 20 so it can be included in the meeting record.

“The rise of the short-term rental industry has had a profound impact on Aquidneck Island over the last decade. We really want people to share their experiences and ideas, whatever they may be, with our commission so that we can gather a body of testimonials that show how people in the community feel about the growth of this industry in their neighborhoods. If people have suggestions for where they want the government to go with regulation, now is the time to share them. We really want to hear from people because gauging public concerns is a critical element of our commission’s work,” Carson said in a statement.

All our people are invited to the meeting. meetingIt will also air on Capitol Television on Cox Communications channel 61, i3 Broadband (formerly Full Channel) channel 15, and Verizon channel 34. capitoltvri.cablecast.tv/.
