LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) – One person was hospitalized in critical condition following a house fire on Lantana Drive in Louisville Thursday evening, according to authorities.

Deputy Chief Dewayne Hutchens of the Fern Creek Fire Department said Fern Creek Fire & EMS, along with Zoneton Fire and Okolona Fire, responded to a house fire in the 8000 block of Lantana Drive just after 4 p.m.

The teams arrived at the scene within a few minutes and found heavy smoke rising from the house. According to the statement, fire crews found and rescued an unconscious person. It was later learned that the condition of the person who was taken to the hospital was critical.

Hutchens said about 20 firefighters had the fire under control within 15 minutes of arriving on scene. The house was severely damaged.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
