Georgia’s first Wawa opens its doors in Bainbridge

BAINBRIDGE, Ga. (WALB) – The first Wawa store in the state has officially opened in the city of Bainbridge. WALB had the opportunity to take a first look inside the store and witness the grand opening festivities.

During the grand opening, many customers came out to fuel up their vehicles and try the famous hoagies.

The Bainbridge location alone brought $7.5 million in investment as well as 35 new jobs to the region. Beyond quality fuel, food and customer service, employees say customers can expect Wawa to become a major staple in the Bainbridge and South Georgia communities.

Wawa plans to open 26 more stores over the next five to eight years in places like Tifton, Valdosta and Albany, but Bainbridge was the perfect place to launch this expansion.

“We’re touring around the country to see where we want to be, and this may sound a little corny, but these are the places that feel like home to us. This is an area that aligns with our values as a company, and that’s why we came here,” said Roberts Yeatts, senior director of store operations.

Some citizens could not hide their excitement. They filled the store’s parking lot before 8:30 a.m. to witness the grand opening.

“Everyone is so excited and excited! Even the employees are dancing to the Cupid Shuffle here. It definitely felt like a fall! That’s why I’m so excited for this location. They couldn’t have picked a better location,” said Joshua Cooper.

A business owner says a company like Wawa not only benefits customers but also the local economy.

More Wawa stores are expected to open in South Georgia in 2025, but for now Georgians can get their Wawa needs by visiting Bainbridge.
