Trump’s pick for attorney general ‘showed videos of his sexual partners to his Congressional colleagues’

The next president of the USA made his most controversial speech government appointment yetby electing an ardent loyalist who faces investigation for a series of serious and horrific accusations as the country’s chief law enforcement officer.

Until last year, Mr. Gaetz was embroiled in a sex trafficking investigation by the same Department of Justice (DOJ) that he is now expected to lead, over allegations that he had sex with a 17-year-old girl in exchange for money.

In 2021, it was revealed that federal investigators were investigating allegations that he and his onetime political ally Joel Greenberg paid underage girls and escorts or offered them gifts in exchange for sex.

Mr. Gaetz vehemently denied any wrongdoing and said he was the victim of a politically motivated “fishing expedition” because he was an “outspoken conservative.”

He also said the sex crimes investigation was part of an “organised criminal extortion” against him.

Last year, the Justice Department said it would end the investigation before Mr. Gaetz was charged with a crime.

In 2021, the House Ethics Committee launched its own investigation into some of the same allegations, as well as accusations that Mr. Gaetz misused government identification records, diverted campaign funds to personal use, misrepresented gifts and shared inappropriate images or videos.

He once again denied any wrongdoing and said he was the victim of defamation.

The committee later canceled parts of the investigation, including sharing the videos, but would release a highly critical report about Mr. Gaetz on Friday, according to reports.

But Mr. Gaetz resigned his House seat late Wednesday, effectively ending the investigation and putting himself beyond the committee’s reach.

It was not immediately clear whether the committee would still release its findings.
