Jennings Creek Fire containment area expands as New York governor imposes burn ban

GREENWOOD LAKE, NY – People north of New York City and northern New Jersey are being warned of more smoke from the Jennings Creek Fire, which is burning along the border of New Jersey and New York on Thursday. Meanwhile, the New York City Fire Department responded to a three-alarm brush fire Thursday in the nation’s most densely populated borough.

The New Jersey Forest Fire Service reported progress on the Jennings Creek Fire, with it being up to 50 percent contained as of Thursday morning and burning more than 2,000 acres.

The fire continues in Passaic County, New Jersey, and Orange County, New York, and roads and state parks are closed.

New York Governor Kathy Hochul imposed a statewide burning ban on Wednesday.

The FDNY called the Inwood Park Brush Fire “treacherous.” No injuries were reported and the fire appears to be under control, but the department said they expect some hot spots to remain until Thursday morning.
