A breakdown of all Dallas area volleyball teams in the UIL regional finals

This weekend’s list of UIL play-off games should be followed by: Dallas area volleyball I’m excited because 13 teams have a chance to get their ticket to the state tournament. Here’s what you need to know about each Dallas-area team competing in the regional finals.

6A Division I Region I:

Allen

The Eagles have been on a tear this postseason, finishing third in District 6-6A with an 11-3 record after being eliminated from the playoffs in the bi-district round by Plano East last season. They beat District 7-6A second-place finishers Coppell and Lake Highlands in the first two rounds of the playoffs and then defeated the Eastlake team 38-5 in the regional semifinals. took the lead from Allen freshman standout Maya OgboguSet a team record with 411 kills and ranked eighth in the rankings. Keller

The Indians don’t have players who are among the statistical leaders in Class 6A this year, but they’ve played like one of the best teams in the Dallas area all season long. Keller finished second in District 4-6A behind Byron Nelson with a 19-4 record and outscored every team it played in the playoffs. The Indians are led by hitters Carley Wright (352 kills), Lilly Boatner (308 kills) and setter Anna Flores (947 assists). Keller finished the regular season ranked No. 2 in The News rankings.

Southlake Carroll

The Dragons lost to Prosper in the regional final last season and are looking to pull off an upset victory against Byron Nelson tomorrow night. Carroll finished third in District 4-6A with a 10-4 record and enters this year’s regional final with momentum after a long absence. A tough win against third-place Hebron in the regional semi-finals. Ruled by dragons talented young hitter and San Diego State commit Layla AustinTeam leader with 394 kills. Carroll finished No. 7 in The News’ final regular season poll.

Byron Nelson

It’s been a special year for Byron Nelson. Championship at the Ann Kang Invitational in Honolulu Against some of the best teams in the country. Bobcats are now ranked A first in the country by MaxPreps They lost just one game all season as they pushed for the state title. The team has elite talent at every position, but it is led by young hitter and Washington forward Kylie Kleckner, who set a team record with .535. Byron Nelson looks to advance to the state semifinals for the first time since 2019, when it last won the state title.

6A Division II Region II:

Royse City

The Bulldogs advanced to the regional final after being eliminated from the playoffs last year with a 3-2 heartbreak against Wylie East in the third round. They’ve had a strong season to this point, finishing second in District 10-6A and losing just one game in the postseason. Royse City got great production from senior hitter and Tulsa signee Kylee McCoy, who led 6A with 788 strikeouts.

5A Division I Region I:

Colleyville Heritage

After falling to Liberty Hill in the state semifinals last year, Colleyville Heritage appears to have a chance to win its second state title in three seasons in 2024. The team is led by senior BYU signee Suli Davis, who set a team record with 773 points. kill and enter this regional final by winning eight matches in a row. The Panthers edged rival Argyle for the 6-5A district title this year and are ranked No. 22 in the nation by MaxPreps.

5A Division I Region II:

Frisco Reedy

Reedy found a different gear in the postseason after finishing fourth in District 12-5A. She got past Centennial in the bi-district round, won a five-set thriller in the regional round against ninth-seeded Melissa and got past Lake Belton in the regional semifinals. The Lions are led by senior setter Riya Nutakki, who has 451 assists this year. Reedy is trying to win its first state championship after becoming the first Frisco ISD team to reach the state semifinals in 2022.

McKinney North

McKinney North also got hot in the postseason after losing its final regular season game against Lake Highlands. The Bulldogs knocked off fifth-seeded Highland Park in the region before sweeping Chaparral in the regional semifinals. Junior hitter Allyn Brewer leads the team in scoring with 431, while junior setter Jordan Kowallis leads the team in assists with 635. McKinney North finished the regular season ranked 10th in The News rankings.

5A Division II Region I:

The Eagles will have a rematch with Lubbock Cooper on Friday after prevailing in last year’s regional final. Argyle finished second in District 6-5A and did not lose a set in the playoffs this year. The top contributors to the team were sophomore setter Karsyn Rogers with 598 assists and senior libero Piper Mickenheim with 657 tackles. Argyle finished the season ranked third in The News’ regional rankings and is trying to win its first state championship since 2015.

5A Division II Region II:

2024 Leopards hope to continue racing Volleyball dynasty in Lovejoyand so far this postseason they have looked the part of another state champion. Lovejoy dominated Hallsville in two regional rounds, overcame a tough test from Frisco Lone Star in the regional round and defeated Woodrow Wilson in the district semifinal. The team is loaded with varsity talent, but also got strong play from sophomore Gentry Barker, who was among the leaders in 5A this year with 468. Lovejoy will face Frisco Wakeland in the regional final for the fourth straight year. He finished the regular season in second place in The News’ regional poll.

Frisco Wakeland

Frisco Wakeland hopes it can upset Lovejoy and avenge last season’s postseason loss. The Wolverines had an outstanding season, going 13-1 and winning the 12-5A region. Having survived the challenge of Prosper Walnut Grove in the second round of the playoffs, the team needs to be confident as it prepares to face the Leopards. Frisco Wakeland is led by junior middle hitter Hannah Lee (433 kills) and senior setter Sarah Pfiffner (727 assists). Wakeland finished the regular season ranked sixth in The News’ regional poll.

4A Division I Region II:

Celina

Celina doesn’t have “special” season That was the case last year, too, but the Panthers survived the playoff test and returned to the regional semifinals for the fourth straight year. Celina defeated Life Waxahachie by a classic score of 3-2 in the second round and will head into Friday’s match against Caddo Mills with a dominant performance against Henderson in the regional semifinals. Sophomore hitter Kennedy Hangartner (340 kills) and sophomore setter Alex Farrow (661 assists) have been Celina’s strongest players this year.

4A Division II Region II:

The News’ 4A team, which lost to Celina in last year’s regional final, is looking to get another ticket to the state tournament. Aubrey won District 9-4A this year with a 10-1 record and has lost just one set so far in the postseason. The Chaparrals are trying to win their first state championship in program history.
