A woman reportedly told the House Ethics Committee that she had sexual intercourse with Rep. Matt Gaetz, R-Fla., when she was 17 years old.

ABC News reported It was stated on Thursday that the woman testified to the committee in its investigation of Gaetz, and that investigation was halted after House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) announced that Gaetz had resigned from Congress on Wednesday.

The resignation announcement came hours after President-elect Trump appointed Gaetz as attorney general.

The lead counsel for the House Ethics Committee declined to comment upon a question from Fox News Digital.

Fox News Digital also reached out to Gaetz’s Congressional office for comment.

According to ABC, the Department of Justice (DOJ) had previously spoken with the woman, now in her twenties, as part of a years-long investigation into Gaetz on sex trafficking and obstruction of justice charges.

The Justice Department ultimately did not file charges, and Gaetz has consistently denied any wrongdoing.

The report stated that the woman was subpoenaed by the House Ethics Committee over the summer.
