Woman faces charges after standoff with police in Missoula

A suspect is facing several charges following a standoff with police in Missoula Wednesday afternoon.

The Missoula Police Department says a 39-year-old woman is being held on pending charges including assault with a weapon and assault on her partner’s family member.



The incident began around 1 p.m. Wednesday, when MPD responded to the 1700 block of Cooley Street on a report of a disturbance involving a “sharp-edged weapon.”

MPD states that the investigation is ongoing and there is no threat to the public.

Missoula police confirmed that the suspect involved in the shooting with KPAX was taken into custody Wednesday evening.

Police arrived at the scene and reported that the man was transported to a local hospital for treatment. MPD said the injuries were not life-threatening.

There is no longer any risk for the public.

The Missoula Police Department is advising the public to avoid the 1700 block of Cooley Street due to the tensions.

Around 1 p.m., officers were dispatched to a report of a disturbance involving a “sharp-edged weapon,” MPD spokeswoman Whitney Bennett said.

Given the nature of the incident, the SWAT team was activated just before 2:30 p.m., Bennett said.

People are asked to avoid the area so emergency personnel can respond to the situation.
