Authorities say the deputy shot the man after a half-hour gunfight in a residential neighborhood of Camas

A deputy shot and wounded a suspect in Camas Wednesday night, the Clark County Sheriff’s Office reported.

The man, whose name was not disclosed, is being treated at a local hospital. The extent of the man’s injuries is unknown.

Police said the deputy was not injured.

Around 10 p.m., 911 callers reported hearing gunshots near Northeast Everett Avenue and 23rd Street in Camas. Authorities stated that gunshots lasted at least half an hour during additional searches.

Officers from the Clark County Sheriff’s Office and Camas, Vancouver and Washougal police departments arrived at the residential area and soon a drone located a man in front of a home.

The sheriff’s office said the suspect “is believed to be a defendant in a no-contact warrant prohibiting him from being at the residence or possessing a firearm.”

At 23:03, the police in the armored vehicle tried to communicate with the man, and then the shooting occurred. There are no details about the shooting at this time.

The sheriff’s office said the deputies at the scene were all wearing body cameras and the video would be released later.

The deputy who shot the man was placed on critical incident leave. The Clark County Sheriff’s Office said this was “agency protocol” for a shooting. The name of the MP has not been disclosed yet.

The Washington State Patrol is handling the investigation into the shooting.
