Officers placed on mandatory administrative leave after man shot during shooting in Harrison

HARRISON, Maine (WMTW) – Three Cumberland County Deputies have been placed on mandatory administrative leave after shooting and wounding a man Wednesday night.

Police said the man fired several shots at authorities.

The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office said they responded to a call of a man on Hawk Ridge Road who said he was armed and might harm himself.

The man hung up without identifying himself, but police now say the caller was 57-year-old Arthur Lefebvre.

Police who arrived at the scene said they tried to communicate with Lefebvre but were unsuccessful.

They also say Lefebvre’s family members were also in the house and in danger.

After firing several shots at law enforcement, Lefebvre went outside to confront them with the firearm, police said. This led to the police opening fire and injuring Lefebvre.

He was taken to Maine Medical Center to be treated for serious injuries, but is expected to survive.

The Attorney General’s Office will investigate the use of deadly force by three police officers. Police said they would be identified later.

The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office will continue to investigate the charges against Lefebvre.
