Wanted man arrested in Johnson government annex

A man wanted out of Indianapolis was arrested in Johnson County following a confrontation in the county government parking lot yesterday morning.

According to the Johnson County Sheriff’s Department, around 9:40 a.m. Wednesday morning, deputies and Franklin police were called to the Johnson County Capitol about a suspicious SUV with a man inside. Deputies were able to determine that the driver, 42-year-old Tyrone Bunnell, was wanted for multiple felonies from surrounding counties.

Deputies attempted to contact Bunnell and remove him from the vehicle, but he refused to cooperate. Moments later, deputies opened the tailgate and fired tear gas into the SUV. Bunnell then abandoned the vehicle and complied with authorities’ commands.

Bunnell faces a new charge of resisting law enforcement. He was already wanted on warrants for burglary and cocaine possession in Delaware and Marion counties.

Sheriff Duane Burgess praised deputies and officers who resolved the situation without harming the suspect while protecting the community.
