MANOR, Texas – Almost three weeks have passed since then Fatal stabbing at Manor High School. On Wednesday, the district held a safety meeting for students, parents and staff.

“As a community, we need to come together to find solutions and improvements to the safety and security efforts that need to be implemented,” says Manor ISD Superintendent Robert Sormani.

Manor ISD students, staff and parents are recovering and recovering from a fatal stabbing on the Manor High School campus in October. 18-year-old Darrin Loving was stabbed to death by 18-year-old Mac Brown Mbanwei.

“You know the pain never goes away, it’s just there and people are in different stages of grief. Some people are doing much better than others. Some people are still seeing counselors,” Sormani said.

Manor ISD superintendent Robert Sormani said changes were made to the campus following the tragedy to ensure the safety of students.

“All of our Manor high schools have one or two entry points, so we ensure that students only enter certain areas until they are inspected upon entry; in addition, we also have staff greeting them at the door just to check them in,” says Sormani.

The superintendent says metal detectors are also used when students enter campus.

“Anytime you increase safety and security, there are trade-offs, for example, it takes longer to get all students into the building, and I need to hear what communities think about whether it’s a good trade-off,” Sormani says.

The district said Wednesday night’s meeting was to gauge how the community feels about the changes, increase law enforcement presence and take suggestions.

“We have a published survey and have received a lot of responses; nothing is better than hearing directly from people,” says Sormani.

The district received more than a thousand responses, according to the superintendent.

“They keep coming in, and my goal is to review that data and make it available to the community,” Sormani says.

Another safety meeting will be held at Manor New Technology High School on November 20.
