Woman accused of sending marijuana

JONESBORO, Ark. (KAIT) – Police arrested a Jonesboro woman after they say she tried to send a package containing marijuana out of state.

On Nov. 8, a representative received a call from Pak Mail on Southwest Drive about a suspicious package, according to the affidavit.

The manager told the agent that his employee had found marijuana in a box that was being shipped to Houston, Texas.

The box had the name of Elizabeth Marie Smith-Mcneal, 51, and her Virginia Drive address on it, the agent said. However, an investigation revealed that Smith was no longer at that address and moved to the 3700 block of Pilgrim Circle in 2006.

In the article, it was stated that the package and two other people were brought to the 2nd Judicial Drug Working Group office.

Inside the box was a black bag labeled “Planet 13 Las Vegas” and contained two large Zip-Loc baggies containing 127 grams of marijuana.

That same day, Craighead District Court Judge David Boling found probable cause to issue a warrant for Smith’s arrest.

Agents from the 2nd Judicial Drug Task Force went to Smith’s home on Pilgrim Circle, where they spoke with Smith’s daughter, who said she was not home.

Agents could smell marijuana from the home and, while conducting a protective sweep, found marijuana on a roll-out table in the daughter’s bathroom and a tray in her upstairs bedroom, the affidavit said.

Agents also found 104 grams of marijuana in Smith’s bedroom, packaged in the same manner as the marijuana in the Pak Mail package. The leather jacket in her closet also contained a glass container of medical marijuana with her husband’s name on it and containing seven grams of cocaine.

Agents found 41 grams of THC powdered sugar in the home, the affidavit said.

On Tuesday, Nov. 12, District Judge Barbara Halsey found probable cause to charge Smith with delivery of a Schedule VI controlled substance, a class C felony, and possession of a Schedule VI controlled substance with intent to deliver.

Smith was released from the Craighead County Detention Center on $25,000 cash/surety the same day at 4:22 p.m. The hearing date is scheduled for Monday, December 16.
