Kamala Harris appears at ‘SNL’ cold open – NBC New York

Live from New York, Vice President Kamala Harris!

The Democratic presidential candidate made a last-minute appearance in the cold open of “Saturday Night Live” alongside Maya Rudolph, who impersonated Harris on the show throughout the election season.

The cold open began with James Austin Johnson impersonating former President Donald Trump dressed as a garbage man, referencing something the former president actually did earlier in the week.

The sketch then shows Rudolph as Harris, Jim Gaffigan as Harris’ running mate, and Minnesota Governor Tim Walz and Andy Samberg as Doug Emhoff.

The two eventually leave Rudolph alone to rehearse his speech as Harris.

As Rudolph Harris said, “God, I wish I could talk to someone who’s been in my shoes.” “A black, south Asian woman, preferably from the Bay Area.”

Rudolph, as Harris, looks into the mirror and sees the real Harris staring back at him.

“You and I are both brothers,” the real Harris said.

“I’m here to remind you, you get this. You can open doors because you can do something your opponent can’t do,” the real Harris added.

Rudolph, as Harris, then imitates the vice president’s smile.

“I’m not really laughing that much, am I?” the real Harris asked flippantly.

“A little bit,” Rudolph Harris replied.

Then it was Rudolph’s turn to share a message with the real-life Harris.

Rudolph said, “Now Kamala, take my palmala.” “The American people want to stop the chaos.”

“And end the drama,” the real Harris joked.

“Mamala with a great new step,” Rudolph joked. “Let’s put on our pajamas and watch a romantic comedy.”

“It’s legally like Blondala,” the real Harris joked.

“And start decorating for Christmas. Falalala,” Rudolph said.

“Because what we always say is, protect Calmala and carry ondala,” they both said together.

“We know each other so well we even finish each other’s…” Rudolph began to speak before the real Harris agreed with his sentence and waited for them both to say, “Faith in the promise of America.”

The duo then stood up to sing “SNL’s” iconic opening.

But first, Rudolph said he would vote for “us,” or the real Harris, in the presidential election.

“Great, any chance you are registered in Pennsylvania?” the real Harris joked.

Harris’ schedule originally included her traveling to Detroit following a campaign event in North Carolina on Saturday, but instead she and her campaign headed to New York City for the rally.

This wasn’t the first time a presidential candidate appeared on the iconic sketch-comedy show. Last season, former UN Ambassador Nikki Haley appeared in the show’s cold open while competing in the Republican primary.

Former President Donald Trump also hosted the show as a candidate in 2015, and former President Barack Obama also attended the show in 2007.

Comedian John Mulaney hosted the episode with musical guest Chappell Roan.
