What happened in ‘Survivor’ last night? See who goes home on Wednesday

Between immunity challenges, shifting targets and another live tribe, Wednesday’s episode of “Survivor” culminated in a shocking vote-out as the game heads toward the final nine players.

The episode opened with Sam Phalen and Rachel LaMont, along with members of the original Lavo tribe, recounting the results following a blind eye from tribe member Andy Rueda, following Sierra Wright’s failure to vote in the previous episode.

The immunity challenge was a three-stage elimination competition. Each contestant competed in pairs until the final stage, where Gabe Ortis ended his three-immunity streak by defeating Solomon Yi, Teeny Chirichillo and Kyle Ostwald.

A twist to the challenge meant that the first two eliminated couples lost their votes, leaving Sam Phalen, Andy Rueda, Rachel LaMont and Caroline Vidmar without votes after leaving the challenge. The four then went on a Journey where they regained the votes of everyone except Vidmar.

While the other two groups were away, Sue Smey and Genevieve Mushaluk began brainstorming names, and Mushaluk explained to her partner that Yi wanted to target Ortis. This information led Smey to target Yi.

But after Yi learned his name was on the chopping block, the once-locked blind spot plan was disrupted and targets began circling all over the island. With Yi targeting Smey and the original plan for Yi seemingly changing, the cast entered the tribe with various options.

After the 8-1 vote, host Jeff Probst announced that Solomon “Sol” Yi was the person with the highest votes and was therefore eliminated from the island. After Jeff extinguished his torch, Yi was surprised that the move was complete, even though he struggled to vote for Ostwald or Smey.

With this vote, Yi was sent to Jury Ponderosa, where she will serve as the second jury member this season.
