MOSCOW, 14 November. /TASS/. Russian envoy to Syria Alexander Lavrentyev said in a statement to TASS that there is a chance to end the war in the Middle East under the presidency of Donald Trump.

“It is too early to talk about this because we have to wait at least for the president to take office. It will probably be more or less clear whether there will be any changes in US foreign policy after January 20. Naturally, we think we will do this, too. We see such changes,” he said. “We know Mr. Trump, but of course we will see if there will be any chance in the position in the Middle East.”

“But we still hope that some agreements will be reached, including on Syria,” he added.

“The conflict (in Syria) has been going on for more than 13 years, almost 14 years. So now is the time to put an end to it, as Trump has promised to make every effort to prevent armed conflict on the planet.” Lavrentyev noted. “Is there any possibility for progress? I think yes.”
