The New York Mets made a surprising run to the National League Championship Series with two wins in the World Series in what was technically supposed to be a “rebuilding year.” Now, the team’s owners and front office are pursuing a highly anticipated big move that could help the team make a real push for a championship.

The Mets are reportedly pursuing free agent Juan Soto, as has been widely speculated since he was traded across town last winter. Steve Cohen leads the charge as the “Amazins” try to steal Soto from the Yankees.

Considering so much money has come off the books in previous seasons from salaries, these Mets under Cohen and President of Baseball Operations David Stearns may not give up on reining in Soto to give the team a better shot at its first championship in 39 years. After falling short of expectations in 2022 and completely failing in 2023, the Mets embarked on a magical playoff journey last season and aim to continue their title challenge.

They are expected to make arguably the biggest push for Soto, as well as strengthening their starting lineup and bullpen. New York won’t just be taking on the big names; The Mets will also identify and pursue key complementary players.
