Metro school board votes to rezone some schools despite staff concerns

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) – The Metro school board approved the rezoning plan Tuesday night.

The plan was unanimously approved and could impact thousands of students and parents.

Multiple staff members at one of the affected schools took their concerns to the school board, hoping it would make a difference in their decision.

This is part of a district initiative that will offer students additional educational options through the rezoning of a cluster of schools in Antioch, Glencliff and Hillsboro.

The intent of the plan is being questioned by those affiliated with Lead Cameron Middle School, which is classified as an optional charter school and gives students the opportunity to transfer to a metro school, which concerns them.

“I’m speaking out tonight because I’m disheartened by the lack of cultural sensitivity and community care around the decision to remove zoning from Cameron,” a staff member said during the public feedback portion of Tuesday’s meeting. he said.

Students at the affected school can remain there, and the board said it does not intend to close any schools for rezoning.
