“I Hope I Killed Someone”: Casper Teen Accused of Shooting at Houses Pleads Innocence

CASPER — A 15-year-old boy who allegedly told friends, “I hope I killed someone,” after shooting at one of two homes in north Casper on Aug. 9 and Aug. 12, pleaded not guilty Wednesday in Natrona County District Court.

Marquis Hayman stood next to attorney Dylan Rosalez in red overalls and shackles in front of Judge Daniel Forgey as the charges against him were read; Her curly black hair covered her ears. The youngster is approximately 5 feet, 6 inches tall and has a slight build.

Judge Forgey read two cases and charges related to the August 9 incident, which included one count of aggravated assault and battery and one count of criminal damage to property, as well as charges of aggravated assault and battery, destruction and defacement of property, and recklessly endangering public officials. 12 August incident.

“Do you not accept these accusations?” Judge Forgey asked.

Hayman replied, “Yes sir.”

Rosalez asked the judge to consider reducing the $100,000 cash bond in the Aug. 9 case and the $50,000 cash bond in the Aug. 12 case to $20,000 cash or surety.

He told the judge that his client did not have access to money as a child and that his mother and grandmother would help supervise him. A stepfather would also consider returning from Florida to help pursue Hayman’s bail, Rosalez said.

“He knows he has to go back to school and keep at it,” Rosalez said.

Deputy District Attorney Jeff Meyer argued the bond was appropriate and that Hayman had a “significant” history with the court system in his childhood.

Bonds ‘Adequate’

Judge Forgey ruled that “the bonds remain appropriate.”

Meyer also asked the judge to consider consolidating the cases for trial, and the judge said he would hold a hearing on the matter.

Hayman entered the courtroom before the hearing and briefly looked at family members seated in the courtroom and smiled.

Hayman’s brother, Anicio Bernard, told him, “We love you, brother!” Hayman was removed from the courtroom.

“He’s got $100,000 bond, that’s not fair,” the Cowboy told State Daily. “15 years old.”

Court records show police responded to the 1200 block of North Center Street on Aug. 10 after a call reporting shots fired at a home. One of the residents of the home told police that he was sleeping around 5:30 a.m. on Aug. 9 and was awakened by what sounded like gunshots in the area. He didn’t believe they got to the trailer house and fell asleep again.

The next day, when his son returned home from Denver, he found two bullet holes in his bedroom.

In the court statement, it was stated that the homeowner reviewed the video, which showed that after a while, a masked man in a Calvin Klein T-shirt and dark jeans came to the house and fired two shots into the house.

Police found a bullet casing outside the house. A review of a Snapchat post received by the victim’s son revealed a screenshot of a man wearing a Calvin Klein shirt.

The victims at the home declined to press charges, but an affidavit filed after the Aug. 12 incident stated that the bullet casing found at the scene on North Center Street was similar to the shooting that occurred on Aug. 12 in the 1100 Block of North Durbin Street. .

‘Mother Duck’

A witness also told police that he heard Hayman boast on August 11 about shooting at “Chopo’s” house a few nights earlier. “Chopo” was the social media account of the North Center Street victim’s son.

The charges stem from the Aug. 12 incident in North Durbin, which involved a shooting that left three bullet holes in the glass window of a mobile home and two bullet holes shattered into a bedroom where people were sleeping.

A police affidavit about the incident alleges that there was underage drinking in the car and a text message was sent to a girl in the car saying that a 15-year-old boy living in the Durbin trailer should “kill himself.” . Hayman was bragging about the 9mm handgun he had and wanted to go to the house in the 1100 block of North Durbin Street, where he allegedly fired five shots.

After returning, a witness told police Hayman said: “Hey, we just blew this (expletive). … I hope I killed someone,” the affidavit says.

The aggravated assault charges each carry a potential penalty of 10 years in prison and a $10,000 fine. The property damage charge for the Aug. 9 incident is a misdemeanor, and the charge for the Aug. 12 incident is a felony. Felony destruction and defacement of property carries a sentence of up to 10 years in prison and a $10,000 fine, or both, while a misdemeanor carries a sentence of up to six months in prison and a $750 fine, or both.
