HGV driver in his 50s dies after collision involving ten vehicles on M6

Lancashire Police have appealed after a man died in a horror crash. M6. Emergency services were called to reports of a serious collision on the motorway near Junction 33 at around 11.20am on Wednesday, November 6.

The accident in question A northbound HGV crossed onto the southbound carriageway and collided with a number of other vehicles. It was determined that the driver of the truck, who was in his 50s, died at the scene.

Two other people, a man in his 40s who was driving a Ford Transit and a woman in her 40s who was driving a Suzuki Swift, were also seriously injured. Three other people suffered minor injuries.

A total of 10 vehicles were involved in the collision. Today (November 7), two lanes of the northbound carriageway have reopened, while the third lane remains closed.

On the southbound carriageway, all lanes were closed to allow emergency repairs to the surface. Directions are in place on the A6 motorway, which runs parallel to the motorway.

Supt Hassan Khan, Lancashire The Police Headquarters Operations Department said: “My thoughts are first and foremost with the loved ones of the driver who sadly lost his life and everyone affected by this tragic incident. Our investigation into what caused this collision is ongoing.

“Work is still ongoing to repair the road so I would urge people to avoid the area if possible or check before travelling. “I understand the delays are frustrating but safety work needs to be completed before the road can reopen.

“I would urge anyone who witnessed the collision and has not yet spoken to police to get in touch.”
