Tarnjeet Riaz: Man ‘may have slept’ as his partner died at the bedside

Mr Bailey added that the prosecution’s case was that Mr Sidpara inflicted most or most of the injuries on Ms Riaz “while she was unconscious or helpless”.

“After inflicting these injuries, he could even have slept as he lay on the floor next to his bed in the early hours of Monday morning, May 6,” Mr Bailey added.

The prosecution said Ms Riaz was dead when Mr Sidpara called an ambulance “around noon”.

During the 999 phone call, Mr Sidpara was explained how to perform CPR on Ms Riaz, which was unsuccessful.

Mr Bailey told the jury that CPR was never successful because “when Mr Sidpara called 999 he was already cold and stiff and his mouth was shut”.

The jury heard Mr Sidpara told the call handler that he had fallen while drunk and suffered injuries that caused him to bleed.

But Mr Bailey said the prosecution’s claim was that Ms Riaz’s injuries were caused by “the sustained, persistent, deliberate and deliberate application of violent force”.
