Meteor appears to be heading towards Calgary sky

Some Calgary residents caught what appeared to be a meteor streaking across the sky early Wednesday morning.

Multiple CTV News viewers sent in video showing a light moving in the sky over the city just after 6:30 a.m.

A bright glow is seen illuminating the night sky before disappearing into the darkness.

Shannon Bibe captured video of the incident on a camera in the backyard of her Richmond-area home. Bibe said he did not see the fireball firsthand, but this was the first time he recorded such an event with his camera.

Manjot S Walia also sent a photo of the meteor looking south of the city and described it as a “fireball”.

According to the American Meteor Society (AMS), the Northern Taurid meteor shower is currently active and is expected to peak overnight.

AMS said it was received 115 reports of a fireball It has been spotted in Alberta, British Columbia and Saskatchewan, as well as several northern provinces.
