Prominent Sports Doctor Predicts Shohei Ohtani Has Serious Injury

Los Angeles Dodgers star Shohei Ohtani injured his left shoulder in Saturday’s World Series win against the New York Yankees. injury dead In the bottom of the seventh inning, Ohtani attempted to steal second base. He was called out and then walked off the field holding that arm. His spot never came up again for Los Angeles, so we didn’t get to see how the Dodgers would handle another inning potential for Ohtani.

With Sunday being a day off for the series, it’s unlikely we’ll hear anything official until Monday, but initial reports are conflicting at the moment.

Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic had the following information about “X” based on comments from Dodgers manager Dave Roberts.

Dave Roberts said Shohei Ohtani is suffering from a subluxation of his left shoulder. Strength testing and range of motion were good, but he didn’t want to speculate until more testing was done tomorrow.

Roberts also said he expects Ohtani to be on the roster for Game 3, but some things are still unknown at this point. Ohtani may very well be good and play, or it could all be Roberts’ gamesmanship.

On the other side of the speculation comment, things are not looking good for Ohtani. Well-known sports physician and former NFL team doctor David Chao had a much more pessimistic view of things.

Star receiver Shohei Ohtani attempted to steal second base and was tagged on video as he appeared to have suffered a temporary left shoulder dislocation with a possible labral tear, based on analysis by our Pro Sports Docs team. This injury is significant and will almost certainly mean the end of the World Series for Ohtani, the Dodgers’ dynamic leadoff hitter. If the injury is confirmed, surgery can be expected with the goal of having him ready by 2025 spring training.

This would certainly be the worst-case scenario as it would cause Ohtani to miss the remainder of the series and significantly delay the offseason. Since Ohtani is on a tight schedule to get back on the court, any major disruptions and delays could hurt this comeback.

The Dodgers lead the series 2-0 as they look for their first World Series win since 2020.

Game 3 is Monday night at 8:08 PM ET.
