Five police officers and a firefighter were injured in a massive fire that completely destroyed a 16-unit apartment complex in Camden County Tuesday night, authorities said.

The New Jersey Red Cross said 26 people from 13 families were left temporarily homeless by a three-alarm fire at the Mansion Apartments on West Branch Street.

Pine Hill police Chief Christopher Winters said five officers and one firefighter were hospitalized with smoke inhalation. On camera interview with 6abc.com. No residents were injured, Winters said.

It was stated that the fire, which broke out on the second floor balcony at around 18:00, was brought under control at around 20:20.

The Red Cross said it was providing temporary shelter, food and clothing.

The cause of the fire is being investigated.

Pine Hill police could not immediately be reached Wednesday.
