ME Warden Service offers information to thousands following illegal killing of two deer in MDI

MOUNT DESERT ISLAND, Maine (WABI) – A $4,000 reward is being offered for information about two deer that were illegally shot at night on Mount Desert Island.

A large elk was killed on the night of October 5 or early the next morning, according to the Maine Warden Service.

The body was found in a small area in Mount Desert.

Another big buck was hit in the town of Tremont in the early morning hours of November 6.

Officials say the deer’s head was also removed.

MOUNT DESERT ISLAND, Maine – Working with the Maine Warden Service, Operation Game Thief is offering a reward of up to $4,000 for two deer illegally shot at night on Mount Desert Island.

The first deer was killed on the night of October 5he or early morning hours of October 6he When a large deer was shot and killed at night in the town of Mount Desert, located on Mount Desert Island. The deer was shot and left to rot and was discovered on the morning of October 6.he When a concerned citizen noticed his death in a small field, he called the Warden Service.

The second deer, another large deer, was shot in the early morning hours of November 6th.he In the town of Tremont, also located on Mount Desert Island. Similar to the first deer, this deer was also killed illegally at night. The person(s) who shot the deer cut off the deer’s head and left the rest of the animal to rot.

Mount Desert Island has long been closed to hunting, so hunting at night is both illegal and dangerous.

Maine Operation Game Thief is offering $2,000 for each illegally killed deer or $4,000 for both deer for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for killing those deer. Anyone with information about any of these incidents should please report information by calling 1-800-ALERT-US.
