Old Bridge NJ BOE member’s wife pleads guilty to theft by deception

The wife of an Old Bridge school board member is scheduled to be sentenced in February after pleading guilty in connection with the incident. Theft of more than $50,000 from a county PTA and youth sports program.

Dana Marchetta, 43, wife Old Bridge Board of Education Member Leonardo MarchettaHe pleaded guilty Oct. 30 in Middlesex County Superior Court to third-degree theft by deception.

He is scheduled to be sentenced Feb. 7 before Middlesex County Superior Court Judge Joseph Paone.

Charges against Leonardo Marchetta are pending, according to the Middlesex County District Attorney’s Office

The possible penalty for a third-degree crime is up to five years in prison. However, if the defendant has no prior criminal record, there is a presumption of a probationary period instead of a prison sentence.

The conviction can be expunged from a person’s record after five years.

The couple was charged by county police in connection with the theft of $41,067.90 from the Grissom School PTA and vendors and $12,417.16 from the Rebel Football and Cheer Program in April.

Police said Dana Marchetta was involved in the Grissom and Salk PTA organizations and the Rebels program and allegedly misused his positions in the organizations for his own financial gain.

Dana Marchetta was charged with seven counts of forgery, four counts of bad checks, three counts of theft by fraud, two counts of theft, theft by failure to properly appropriate funds, forgery of documents, forgery of public records, falsification of records. Police said money laundering and conspiracy.

Police also claimed that some of the stolen money was deposited into her husband’s personal accounts.

Her husband was charged with seven counts of bad checks, two counts of theft, theft by deception and conspiracy.

Leonardo Marchetta, whose term on the Board of Education expires at the end of this year, did not seek re-election.

Marchetta serves as chairman of the school board’s Athletics and Extracurricular Committee.
