Elderly woman dies in pedestrian crash as Dover gathers to honor vets

an old man Dover A woman died in a pedestrian crash Monday, police said.

Town leaders and residents gathered at Hurd Park. Veterans Day At the ceremony around 6 p.m., police and firefighters were called to Prospect Street near Garden Savings Federal Credit Union for a report of a pedestrian struck by a motor vehicle.

Police Chief Jonathan Delaney said responders responded to St. Louis in Dover. He said he had located the female victim, a 74-year-old Dover resident who was transported to Clare Hospital and pronounced dead.

The victim’s name is being withheld until next of kin are notified.

The chief said the incident is still under investigation, but initial reports indicate the victim was crossing the street in the middle of the street, outside of a crosswalk, when he was struck. It was dark at the time, Delaney said.

Investigators determined two vehicles were involved in the incident, the chief said. He hit the woman first, then another vehicle hit him. Both drivers remained at the scene and were interviewed by detectives.

Delaney could not immediately determine the make and model of the vehicles involved.

Morris County Sheriff’s Department CSI and Crash teams were called to join the investigation.
