A man has been arrested following the death of a man in his 60s at a hotel in County Laois, Republic of Ireland.

Gardaí (Irish police) said they were called to the hotel shortly before 8pm local time on Tuesday.

Irish broadcaster RTÉ reports the property is Ballyfin DemenseA five-star hotel located on 614 acres of land near the Slieve Bloom mountains.

It was stated that it was understood that the arrested man in his 30s was traveling with the dead man.

Gardaí described the death as a fatal attack and said they were investigating all the circumstances surrounding the death.

An incident room has been set up at Portlaoise Garda Station and a family liaison officer has been appointed to assist the dead man’s family.
