Mike Tyson takes wild approach in open training for Jake Paul fight

The 58-year-old former heavyweight champion will box YouTube star Paul, 27, at AT&T Stadium in Dallas, Texas, this week. The fight will be broadcast Stream live on Netflix in an unprecedented move.

Ahead of the controversial bout, which was Tyson’s first professional contest since 2005, “Iron Mike” and Paul hit the ring at the Toyota Music Factory to try out some moves for fans.

Many videos of Tyson hitting the pads have gone viral in recent years, with viewers often noting that the American’s speed and power remain intact.

And those traits showed up at times during Tuesday’s open practice; Tyson stepped into most of his punches, often backing his pad man up against the ropes to land combinations.

But the pair didn’t always seem to agree; Tyson occasionally seemed to throw different combinations at the callers.

This could have been due to the volume of the music at the Toyota Music Factory, but regardless, the fans in attendance seemed to appreciate Tyson’s efforts.

Asked later what he had learned about himself during training camp, Tyson said: “I’m tougher than I believe I am, because when I accepted this fight and started training I thought: ‘what the fuck am I thinking?’ But now I have completed the process, the fight is on the side.”

Later in the evening Paul performed his own open workout before saying he felt “sharp, strong and explosive”. He promised: β€œIt’s going to be a short night for Mike.
