Health Consultant Nurjahan Begum was forced to leave the National Institute of Traumatology and Orthopedic Rehabilitation (NITOR) while visiting victims of the mass riot in July due to anger.

He was accompanied by the British High Commissioner in Bangladesh, Sarah Cook.

The incident took place today (November 13) at NITOR in Dhaka’s Sher-e-Bangla Nagar, when a medical consultant and a British diplomat arrived to check on those still receiving treatment for injuries sustained during the July protests.

Eyewitnesses said the situation became tense after Nurjahan Begum’s claim that one of the protocol members pushed one of the patients sparked discontent among the victims.

Some of the protesters made additional complaints, criticizing delays in July Smriti Foundation funds, which many rely on for medical and other benefits.

As tensions increased, both the medical advisor and High Commissioner Cook tried to leave the hospital building. However, the victimized patients and their supporters surrounded their vehicles and prevented them from leaving.

With the help of hospital staff and doctors, Nurjahan Begum and Sarah Cook eventually managed to leave the building.
