St. Helens Police arrest two high school teachers on sexual abuse charges

On Tuesday, St. Helens Police officers, St. Helens High School and arrested a current and former teacher on sexual misconduct charges. This follows allegations of sexual abuse at the school in St. It follows a two-month investigation by St. Helens Police.

The current teacher has been identified as 46-year-old Eric Stearns. He teaches choir, according to the district’s website. Court documents show he was indicted on seven counts of sexual abuse.

Former teacher Mark Collins, 64, is also accused of inappropriately touching minors at school. He was charged with two counts of second-degree sexual abuse and one count of attempted second-degree sexual abuse.

St. St. Helens Police said they received reports of allegations of sexual abuse, which led them to conduct interviews regarding the allegations and subpoena records related to the allegations.

The case is currently in the Columbia County District Attorney’s office, with both Stearns and Collins in the Columbia County Jail.
