Some Bears Apparently Need to Play More and Talk Less

Just when you think it can’t get any worse, it gets worse.

Not everyone is locked and pitched behind Caleb Williams, according to the Bears’ flagship ESPN AM-1000. Someone on the team wanted to see backup quarterback Tyson Bagent start.

“There are also a few veterans who want Bagent to start,” Waddle & Silvy’s Marc Silverman posted on Twitter.

This sounds like a classic case of inmates running the prison.

“After speaking with several people with knowledge of the situation, he approached players Matt Eberflus and Ryan Poles and asked them to make a change to the offensive coordinator,” Silverman tweeted.

What this doesn’t say is when everything happened.

Eberflus already holds meetings with players on Mondays, so this would most likely happen then. By then Eberflus was already considering a change in coordinator. He even said the same thing when asked three times in various ways immediately after Sunday’s defeat. He said they would “look at everything.”

If these demands were made before the match was played, it is easy to understand why they lost. Anyone who worries about anything other than their on-field duties before a game should be on Nate Davis’ inactive list every week.

This all extends to the end of 2022.

When Eberflus and Poles were holding exit interviews with players after the 2022 season, they were told they needed to listen to the players more.

This was from the mouths of those before Bears defensive tackle Justin Jones.

“I think we’re making this a better place where more players can speak their minds,” Jones said, referring to what players told coaches before leaving for the postseason. “You know, if a player doesn’t agree with some of the things we’re doing, I think there should be an open space where you can explain that and say, ‘hey, I don’t know why we’re doing this,’ and tell them, ‘Hey, we’re doing this, that’s why your job is so important and important to our defense. “This is what it means” you can explain.

Since then, coaches have had many conversations about better communication and meetings with the players’ leadership council and captains.

What did all this bring? The prisoners run the prison, that’s what happens.

If this is what communicating with players means, the era of the autocratic coach needs to return.

Imagine players making those kinds of demands of Mike Ditka back in the day.

PACKERS CAUSED THE MOST DIFFICULTIES IN WEEK 11

THE NEW BEARS OFFENSIVE COORDINATOR IS A PRACTICAL TYPE OF COACH

DO THE BEARS ALREADY HAVE AN ANTIDOZE FOR THE CURE OF PACKERS IN THE NEW GAME CALLER?

WHY IT’S SO MEANINGFUL TO GIVE MATT EBERFLUS A LAST HAIL MARY

How quickly can someone waive?

As for the report that some veteran players are calling for a QB change, that’s either not true or, if true, seems downright stupid on the part of the players who are said to be doing so.

Offensive linemen don’t demand such a move from coaches, especially not any of these linemen. They don’t know what’s going on behind them or downfield, and more than half are injured.

It would probably be hard to imagine anyone other than experienced wide receivers doing this.

They don’t exactly have a ton of experienced wide receivers, so it’s not hard to identify who it could be if he’s right.

Such a thing would be a big mistake on their part.

Keenan Allen is not under contract for next year. If he had made such a request, he was almost certain he wouldn’t be here after this season. He might not do it anyway.

If it’s DJ Moore, that’s a big mistake too. Williams is not leaving. It will be here next year. No one wants to be labeled cancer and persona non grata in the locker room, but someone who pressured the coaches to let go of their No. 1 overall rookie pick at quarterback, a passer who hasn’t had time to throw lately, deserves it. There are injuries to the offensive line and there is currently an offensive coordinator who was fired for his incompetence.

Or maybe it was 40-year-old Marcedes Lewis. If he had made such a request, it would have been even more pointless because it is unlikely that he will even play a role there after this season.

So this part of the report doesn’t sound very logical or accurate. It’s hard to believe that someone would make such a ridiculous request when it’s clear they’re going to change coordinators and Williams will always be here.

If any of this is true, what Eberflus should have done, but certainly won’t, is to disband the “leadership council”, use the captains just to toss a coin, and from now on all the players will be more interested in football than politics. Maybe he should tell them not to appear on radio shows during the season. A lot of divisiveness emerges from the appearances they make.

One thing they can all be sure of: whoever comes in after Eberflus is gone will know exactly who the troublemakers are, if they actually exist.
