How much might it cost Cleveland and Cuyahoga County to move to Browns Brook Park?

CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) – Philadelphia-based ESI Econsult Solutions Inc. A new economic impact study conducted by shows that the multimillion-dollar economic impact from the Browns’ move to Brook Park will negatively impact Cuyahoga County and the State of Ohio.

The study, which analyzed existing businesses from the Downtown Cleveland stadium to the potential business replaced by the new Brook Park stadium, shows the city would lose “at least” $30 million annually in direct, indirect and induced economic output. The move will also change the jobs of 360 people.

In addition, the study predicts that Brook Park stadium “will shift economic activity out of Cleveland and therefore will not create new economic and fiscal impacts on the State or State.”

The Browns said a domed stadium in Brook Park would lead to “50 events each year” in the area. According to ESI, similar domes in similar markets see only four to twelve larger events per year other than NFL games. In order for the Browns to add more than 30 events, they will need to move them away from other Cleveland areas.

An example of this is an event like the MAC basketball championship. If the annual event at Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse is moved to the new dome in Brook Park, revenues from downtown Cleveland and Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse will be cut. The study says that “the combined losses in the city’s economic activity due to the loss of the Existing Stadium and major ground patronage would therefore more than double.”
