Former Green Beret and NFL player Nate Boyer has come to Michael Strahan’s defense after calling the outrage over his controversial national anthem “ridiculous.”

Strahan sparked outrage over the weekend when he failed to place his hand over his heart during the national anthem during a Fox Sports show at Naval Base San Diego ahead of Veterans Day.

The former New York Giants star, who lashed out at a DailyMail.com reporter on Tuesday when asked to comment on the matter, was the only member of the network’s NFL team standing with their hands clasped in front of them.

Some angry Americans are calling for him to be fired by Fox Sports after his “unpatriotic” move while the Star Spangled Banner was played.

But Strahan’s attitude was not disrespectful “in any way,” according to Boyer, who served six years and multiple tours of duty in both Iraq and Afghanistan for the U.S. Army.

‘It’s a little ridiculous, to be completely honest,’ former Seattle Seahawks long snapper says TMZ About the turmoil surrounding Strahan.

‘First of all, Mike has a very deep respect for the military. The veteran has done a lot of work in the nonprofit field. He’s a military brat. You know, he grew up in this environment (Strahan’s father is a veteran). It’s part of his life.

‘The gesture itself, standing there with hands crossed, is not disrespectful in any way. I just don’t understand. I don’t understand this.

‘It feels like people are just reaching out and just picking one thing, but it sounds like I’m offended to hear that.’

Strahan exploded at a DailyMail.com reporter on Tuesday when calmly asked for his comment on the controversy after arriving home from hosting ABC’s Good Morning America.

‘Don’t come to my house, man!’ he shouted before grabbing the reporter’s phone.

Strahan then threw the phone into a nearby bush and then drove off towards his $20 million mansion. girlfriend Kayla Quick.

Despite calls for him to be fired, DailyMail.com understands Fox Sports will not impose any sanctions on Strahan for what was an honest mistake.

A source said: ‘His friends are watching his back and realize he hasn’t made the right decision about himself. Michael will not be penalized or fined.

‘He may address it, but he’s weighing his options because he never thought it could be a thing. He knows what kind of person he is and almost doesn’t want to address this argument just to give it more life.

‘Michael wants Veterans Day to be for the men and women who deserve it and deserve the praise, so to engage in the conversation and expand the conversation about what people think he did would be a disservice to the meaning of this day.’

Strahan’s Fox colleague Jay Glazer was emphatically defensive on Monday: ‘I don’t know if I have a friend who is more proud of his military roots than Michael.’

The source continued: ‘There has been no mention of this at the moment. All this came to light later when trolls got involved.

‘You need to think, imagine those moments when you are at a match or event where the National Anthem is played and you are asked if you can stand up.

‘Everyone in these stadiums or rooms, including you, are people who have no control over their hearts. This doesn’t mean you’re disrespecting anything, it’s just what’s happening right now.

‘Michael was in the moment and in no way shape or form challenged the present moment. It was an internet debate he never intended to start.

‘Michael looks forward to this controversy being eliminated as soon as it is created; ‘He’ll live his life and worry about what he can control, that’s all he can hope for.’
