One person was killed and two others were seriously injured in a crash that was expected to close part of Highway 7 in Markham overnight.

The crash happened Monday night east of Reesor Street.

Stf. Sergeant Peter Cheung of York Regional Police (YRP) said they were called to that area around 7:45pm for a report of a collision involving two vehicles.

He said that a male passenger, who was a passenger in a vehicle driven by a woman, died due to his injuries and was determined to have died at the scene. The driver of that vehicle was taken to a trauma center in Toronto with serious injuries, Cheung said.

He stated that another woman in the other vehicle was seriously injured and was transported to the trauma center by land ambulance.

The highway is closed in both directions in that area.

The investigation is in its early stages and is ongoing.

“We will look at every possibility as to why this happened,” Cheung said.
