Allen, 52, a former pharmacy worker, was found guilty by a 12-person jury of two counts of murder and two counts of murder in the course of kidnapping. He now faced up to 130 years behind bars. His sentence is scheduled to be announced on December 20.

According to the New York Post, Allen was seen standing emotionless as the verdict was read. His wife, Kathy Allen, left the courtroom, telling WTHR it wasn’t over at all. The crowd cheered loudly in front of the courthouse.

Prosecutors alleged during the trial that Allen killed 13-year-old Abby and 14-year-old Libby by slitting their throats while they were hiking on the Monon High Bridge Trail in Delphi on Feb. 13, 2017. Indianapolis. Allen’s attorneys argued he was innocent and argued there was too much reasonable doubt for a jury to convict.

Who is Richard Allen?

Allen had no prior criminal record. But prison records show he also used the alias Craigh Ross Rentfrow, according to The Independent.

Allen’s home, which he shared with his wife, Kathy, was less than a five-minute drive from where the two teenagers’ bodies were found. Allen has lived there since at least 2006, according to online records. He has lived in Indiana his entire adult life.

Allen, a trained pharmacy technician, was working at a local CVS store at the time of his arrest. After his arrest, he reportedly confessed to killing the girls with a box cutter.

According to The Mirror, Indiana State Police Detective Brian Harshman testified that the suspect confessed to the crime mainly to his mother and wife during phone calls in prison. Indiana State Police Lt. Jerry Holeman testified that a fellow inmate revealed that Allen had confessed to the crime and even produced the murder weapon.

Delphi murders

On the day of the murders, Abby and Libby were dropped off at County Road 300 North, east of the Hoosier Heartland Highway, by Libby’s older sister, Kelsi German. The two girls were hiking on the Monon High Bridge over Deer Creek, among the woods in remote Deer Creek County. At 2:07 p.m., Libby posted a photo of Abby walking on the bridge. That was the last time anyone heard from them.

When the duo could not meet Libby’s father, a missing person report was filed. The families searched for their daughters themselves before contacting the police, but to no avail. Their bodies were found around noon the next day on the north bank of Deer Creek. Allen was arrested in 2022 in connection with the brutal murders.

After Allen was found guilty, Kelsi shared a photo of Abby and Libby on Instagram with the caption, “It’s been almost 8 years, today was the day.”
